While I was at Kripalu I was able to check off another item from my 30 Before 30 list: #8 Attend a kirtan.

A kirtan is a group call-and-response event where sanskrit mantras are chanted together. A mantra is a word, or group of words that are used to focus and calm the mind. Sanskrit is an ancient Indian language that’s not commonly spoken. The point of a kirtan is to focus on the mantra and forget about everything else. It’s a form of meditation. Read all about it here or here.
It was such a positive and uplifting experience that I wanted to take a piece of it home with me so I bought the cd. I’ve been listening to it (and singing along) whenever I’m in traffic. Now that’s not to say that it’s made me enjoy gridlock, but at least I don’t I feel like I’m wasting my time.

Holding me off until the next kirtan!

I love your list! I have a group of friends who run some 5ks together, we are doing a few soon if you want to join in!
That sounds great. I’ve got some work to do, but I figured fall would be a nice time to take up running.
